| Biden Announces Withdrawal from Presidential Race |
Current US President Joe Biden declared on social network X that he is stepping down from the presidential race. Despite this, he plans to remain in office until the end of his term.
The Biden administration released an official statement from the president. In it, he highlighted the significant strides made by the nation in recent years. The president enumerated the country’s key accomplishments, including investments in infrastructure restoration, the expansion of affordable healthcare, and the enactment of a gun safety law.
"I know none of this could
have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a
once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great
Depression. We protected and preserved our democracy. And we revitalized and
strengthened our alliances around the world," Biden stated.
Calling his presidency the
greatest honor of his life, Biden reflected on his initial intention to seek
reelection. However, he decided to withdraw in the best interests of the
Democratic Party and the nation. For the remainder of his term, he intends to
focus on fulfilling his presidential duties. In conclusion, he expressed
gratitude to everyone who supported his reelection efforts and acknowledged
Vice President Kamala Harris for their exemplary partnership.
"Let me express my
heartfelt gratitude to the American people for the faith and trust you have
placed in me," he added.
Just before this announcement, Biden's campaign representative Cedric Richmond stated that Joe Biden still holds control over the Democratic Party and is prepared to continue fighting in the election. According to Richmond, Democrats understand the complexities of the election process.
